Writer's Block: Timeless tales

What were your favorite books as a child, and why?

I loved The Secret Garden. A hidden garden, surrounded by vine-covered walls, a place of safety and freedom and beauty.  I wanted to be in that garden.

Most favorite, I think, was The Boxcar Children, by Gertrude Warner.  Children living in a boxcar, fending for themselves, creating their own little family, then being rescued by a benevolent relative into a wonderful new life.  I dreamed of living in that boxcar, having that life.

I still remember these books and how they made me feel when I read them.  A different world from the one I inhabited, one that was idyllic to a child living in a difficult home.  I'd still like to live there even now.  I could have the boxcar inside the garden and grow my own food and keep rabbits and chickens.  Doesn't that sound wonderful?

I loved The Secret Garden as a child! Still do, actually (although this did not stop me from reading Dickon/Colin smut the other day)...

Which just goes to prove the old adage that if it exists, someone, somewhere has already written smut about it. LOLOL
