Writer's Block: Following the leader

Let's say you're running for president, and you win by a mudslide. What would you change about your country and why? Would you make new laws? Paint the White House blue? Tell all!

First thing would be to get rid of lobbying and corporate contributions.  No gifts for elected officials.  The idea of lobbying has been so perverted as to no longer be recognizable.  It was meant to give everyone a chance to plead their case to the president and other officials, not to buy those officials.  Get the money out of politics.  Give everyone a level playing field.  As it stands, only the rich or richly-backed can run.  Money determines who represents us, not a choice of best person for the job.  I could go on, but why bother?  Nothing changes.

I saw your response in the Writer's Block thing. I agree with getting the money out of politics, and the lobbying is a big part of it. That, and campaign finance as well. Even state representatives have to spend so much of their time raising funds and advertising for reelection that they run out of time to work for the people.

Everything has become about money and power, and nothing is left for working for the citizens. It's sad, really. I have no idea what can be done about it, either.
