Writer's Block: Just stop, already!

What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Unfinished fan fiction. I'll be in the middle of a really good story, and..... That's all folks. No more updates. Usually loads of apologies and explanations, but no finish to the story. It's like reading a book, only to find the last pages torn out. Or watching a riveting tv show or movie, only to have the power go out. Why did you start it if you weren't going to finish? Was there no plan? Maybe next time you could write the entire thing and THEN start posting it. This literally makes me want to scream. Now I only read WIP if I know and trust the author to finish, otherwise it goes into my WIP folder and I'll check it's status occasionally. Or dump it. Life has enough irritations as it it, people. Don't make more, please.

I share this pet peeve.

This is why I only publish finished stuff. I have plenty of stories I started, but got stuck on and they sit on my hard drive. I also don't understand how somebody can publish WIPs... what if you want to change something that's already been published?

Snap I have said the same thing. I get really miffed at incomplete stories.

What was the point of all that effort? I think what happens is people start because they have this feeling(muses) and they get all this energy to write.

Then that feeling goes and they get bored or lose interst.

The bottom line is in every long story this happens I call it the wall. You hit the wall, you get to a point if you write another word on said fic you are going to scream. (I have had it happen in every long story I have written)

However that said you have to continue becuase that's what writing is all about, its hard work, you continue on and find a way over, under or stick dynamic into the wall and move it. I just ignore it now and continue on. I don't wait for my muses to give me that feeling I continue on. Maybe not the bit I am stuck on but another bit.

I have an artist friend who said much the same thing, you are in front of the canvus and loath the work you are fighting. But you suck it up and continue.

Why? Because the feeling you get once its done is astounding, I can't describe it. The delight in tag the fic as complete on fanfic is just amazing.
